Enjoy your homemade Gruyère, Bacon, and Tomato Grilled Cheese Sandwich – a perfect treat for National Sandwich Month or any time you're craving a delightful and savory meal!
Makes 2 sandwiches:
Ingredients:
4 slices of sourdough bread
8 ounces (about 225g) Gruyère cheese, sliced
8 slices of cooked bacon
1 large tomato, sliced
Butter, softened
Mayonnaise
Instructions:
Prep Your Ingredients:
Start by cooking the bacon until it's crispy. Set it aside on paper towels to drain excess grease.
Slice the Gruyère cheese and tomato. Set aside.
Assemble the Sandwich:
Lay out 4 slices of sourdough bread on a clean surface.
Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on one side of each slice.
Layer the Fillings:
On the non-mayo side of two bread slices, layer the Gruyère cheese evenly.
Follow by placing 2 slices of cooked bacon on top of the cheese.
Add tomato slices over the bacon.
Create the Sandwich:
Place the remaining slices of bread, mayo-side up, on top of the fillings to complete the sandwich.
Butter and Grill:
Lightly butter the skillet.
Heat a skillet or pan over medium heat.
Grill the Sandwich:
Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
You can use a lid or cover the skillet with foil to help the cheese melt faster.
Serve and Enjoy:
Once the sandwiches are grilled to perfection, remove them from the skillet.
Allow them to cool for a minute before slicing.
Serve the Gruyère, Bacon, and Tomato Grilled Sandwich with your favorite side or dipping sauce.
Optional: For an extra layer of flavor, you can add a touch of Dijon mustard to the inside of the sandwich before grilling.
